Wha-ho! Out of nowhere Brooke seems to have something on Sabrina, and it seems to be hinging on Sabrina’s now-involvement with Vincent. It’s purposely vague on what or why Sabrina could lose her career over this, but we’ll definitely be building towards it.
So now we have Sabrina who seems to be sticking it to Brooke so to speak and Brooke who is now planning on having Sabrina fired. Roommates are great, eh? And poor Krystin who’s had too much to drink can’t keep it down, only to have Brooke hold the toilet lid hostage until she agrees to keep quiet!
The rookie household isn’t every going to be the same again.
*shakes head* I’m so very disappointed in Sabrina. Vincent isn’t worth her time; I doubt he’s worth any of their time. But, I still hope it doesn’t work out the way Brooke wants it to. Brooke is acting like a spoiled little brat; it makes me wonder if she’s an only child, or the youngest, or something. She seems to be used to getting her way and having all the attention. Of course, a lot of parents try to buy their children’s love, so it could be an effect of that, too.
I think that Krystin doesn’t know enough to tell anyone anything anyway, so a promise really isn’t necessary. Although, she’ll probably promise so she can puke in the toilet. Maybe she’ll learn not to drink so much; I doubt it, but it’s possible. I suppose she could still cause problems if she wanted to; I’m just not sure she could do much good.
The site looks fine to me. Also, I like the background in panel 4; going from yellow to green. And, is the floor invisible in panel 5?
Just I was expect.. there’s sometime about Brooke. Brooke using a bit of mind games there.. like my comment on my last episode.
Brooke said “Sabrina is about to lose her carrer” I expect some interferance on Sabrina’s match. maybe on Lorreta VS Sabrina, or maybe Sabrina VS Katherine Smith match..
how can Sabrina lose her carrier?
if Sabrina isn’t focus on her match, she might get injuried..I really saying putting her on the sideline. The medical team already said to Sabrina to take it easy, because of the pounding on her head. instead she gone hanging around, not medically treated well, that will cause injury. Carrier treatening injury.
Let’s make this in a situation, Let say Loretta grabs a steel chair and then nailed Sabrina head again. which leads Sabrina winning the match via DQ. Then Brooke quicky run to the ring, which Loretta instantly went out. Brooke tried to help Sabrina but instead of helping her up, Brooke deliver a devastating vertibreaker on Sabrina. now the same night, the semi Finals.. Sabrina will be facing Katherine Smith. then Kat can used her finisher, (it’s still unknowned) I mean Sabrina will be sidelined for injury.
Brooke really plan and trap Sabrina well, if it came successfully. I think Brooke’s plan is make Sabrina partying and hanging around all the time, and ignore the doctor’s order and miss her traning and even miss her rest. to make it short, Brooke is plans Sabrina to lose focus on her match. Brooke psycho out Sabrina..
That’s the weakness of Sabrina, she thought Pro-Wrestling and development territory is still the same, hang around not training. she still didn’t realize the pressure in pro-wrestling.
I might be linking some here.. could this be mastermind by, non other than Chloe De Sade? maybe Chloe approaches Brooke secretly, and said “you like to join the Hell’s Belle, but first you must do something for me” in which Brooke agreed.
Sabrina said “everyone’s sick” so is that means Sun is sick too?
Sabrina thought she can counter-attack Brooke, by just going out with Vincent, now. Sabrina didn’t know that Brooke planned out this situation.
Interesting… this is becoming interesting.. I wonder what’s next..
Thinking of this wicked plan of Brooke.
What if? Sun pinned Brooke in the fatal four way? will Brooke do the same on Sun? or Brooke gonna still target on Sabrina?
Sabrina is famous, and well loved by the audience.. I wonder if she’s well loved by the other Rival Angels wrestlers.. Brooke and the Hell’s Belle don’t like her.. how about the others?
I just can’t belive Sabrina really suck up.. At first Sabrina tried to kick the hell out of Vincent, then now they’re on.. what’s up with that!!
I really think, this situation really a checkmate on Sabrina. she’s trap on the situation. if Sabrina call Brooke out, Brooke win.. Brooke will show more off more to Sabrina. Like after Brooke and Vincent went out for breakfast, Brooke will said to Sabrina “Vincent, really took me out for breakfast, blah blah blah” even on this case Brooke really planted it out..
The question is, how will Sabrina escape? who’s playing who?
What if, Sabrina went back to hoosier-ville? will the main attraction of Rival Angels will be Chloe DeSade.. hahah 😀
Speaking about Sun.. it’s been quiete awhile we seen Sun.
A Mouse, I’m glad that the site screwiness wasn’t too noticeable, basically the page didn’t load from the normal site, but everything is cool now. Everything’s not so cool with Sabrina though as she’s letting her anger with Brooke cloud her judgement and going out with Vincent. How this could lead to Sabrina losing her career is still up in the air but it will be explored. And you may be on to something with Vincent’s moral character as we’ll see a bit more of it in the future.
Brooke was an only child for a very long time, so she is used to getting her way. I think Krystin isn’t one for mind games and will probably stay out of the Brooke/Sabrina drama. Now Sun on the other hand…. and glad you liked panel 4! I was trying something new. 🙂 And yes, panel 5 does have a transparent floor, not sure how it worked out, but its certainly the angle I was shooting for.
MGC, the way that Brooke intends on making Sabrina lose her career won’t be physical at least in the traditional sense and actually has a little bit to do with Vincent, but I can’t say too much because I don’t want to ruin the surprise of it. But we may see Brooke encourage Sabrina to do things that aren’t in her best interests as well. Sabrina’s attitude change towards Vincent has more to do with Brooke than anything else, and that’s not Sabrina’s smartest move and really Sabrina’s been oft-kilter since the fight at the bar. We’ll see how she comes out of it though. The question of who would benefit from Sabrina’s departure from Rival Angels does get broached in the future but not for the reasons you might think, and where’s Sun? Yes, indeed where IS sun? She might just reappear very shortly…
That is one tiny, tiny shower.
At least Sabrina is wearing a helmet… Vincent!!!!
Just a clarification..
the way that Brooke intends on making Sabrina lose her career won’t be physical at least in the traditional sense
But we may see Brooke encourage Sabrina to do things that aren’t in her best interests as well
-Albone
So, Brooke gonna encourage Sabrina to do things that aren’t her best interest?
So we may see Brooke, encourage Sabrina. let’s say Sabrina really got hurt against Loretta. then the medical team say to Sabrina. Sabrina better not fight against Kat Smith. So Brooke encourages Sabrina, even though, Sabrina is in rough shape. Brooke gonna say “don’t back out.. fight.. you can win against Kat smith,”
the way that Brooke intends on making Sabrina lose her career won’t be physical at least in the traditional sense?
Is it maybe Brooke want Sabrina to lose a match.
bd, its not exactly the Embassy Suites they’re living in. Two of the gals sleep on the couches, and their refridgerator could fit under a desk. Seriously though, I could’ve drawn the shower a little bigger and I may do so if I get some time.
Jamie, Sabrina’s still making a few good decisions, the helmet is a must!
Yes, MGC, along those lines you stated would be how Brooke would encourage Sabrina. It would take a great deal more than Sabrina losing a match for her to risk her career. If nothing else, Commissioner Gabrielle is enjoying the ratings boost that Sabrina provides.
Hmmm… it seems more likely to me Brooke’s plan involves setting Sabrina up to do something dumb and catch it on video rather than interfering with her matches ( of course she could do that, too ). A reason I feel this way is Brooke wants Sabrina’s downfall to be personal, look on page 80 at how Brooke was kicking herself for not beating Sabrina.
One of the things that enters into this is how popular is the Rival Angels show? Are we talking Tuesday night on a basic cable channel? Saturday morning on independent stations? ( just try to find one nowadays… )
I watched taped highlights of the L.A. Thunderbirds roller derby on Saturday mornings back in the 70’s, Dick Lane was a great announcer. As much fun as classic roller derby was, I have a feeling Rival Angels is on a channel and time with a larger viewing audience!
This episode has great composition, the diagonal lines convey action and drama. I don’t think there is a horizontal line anywhere in this ep! ( that’s a good thing )
I get that the floor is transparent in panel 5, I noticed the wall is too in panel 3 ( one towel rack is hanging in midair! ) I like the ‘outside the box’ storytelling, why let floors and walls get in the way of drama?
We’ve got a nice community here, I’m enjoying the discussion as much as the comic. Thoughtful and intelligent discussion at that!
@ albone
It’s good to hear the site’s back to normal. I noticed some slight differences, but nothing that was distracting. The only thing I can think of right now is that I think the PREV and NEXT buttons were in a different position.
Even though I don’t like what Sabrina did I still really hope Brooke doesn’t succeed in getting her kicked out. I’m thinking something came up in Brooke’s conversation with Vincent that she thinks she can use to her advantage. Hopefully, Sabrina will learn something from this when it all comes to a head. She needs to not let her anger get the better of her. It might be good if Brooke’s plan partially works, so she can get it out of her system, and so Sabrina can learn something too. The whole thing could be scandalous.
Sneaking around someone’s house in the middle of the night just seems creepy to me; it may turn out to be harmless, but it seems suspicious to me. Vincent moral character? You mean he has moral character? 😉 He could just be a little overzealous, but I wouldn’t want to take that chance. I’ve got warning bells going off in my head about him. I’d rather listen to them and be safe, then not listen to them and be in trouble. Sabrina could be in danger; she doesn’t actually know where Vincent is taking her, and this could be a problem later.
So, Brooke IS an only child, that really fits. You used the phrase “for a long time”, which makes me wonder if she has step-siblings, or if there is another sibling who is either much older or much younger then her, or something. I remember, from one of my psych classes, that those kinds of situations are effectively only children. But, regardless of the reason(s) she is the way she is, Brooke still needs to learn that she doesn’t need to be the center of attention all the time. I might like her better if she did. A lot of the mean things she does seem motivated by needing to be the center of attention; if that changed I think she’d be a better person.
And, you’re right, where is Sun in all this? She could be overhearing all this stuff. That could sure put a wrench in Brooke’s plan. It seems to me that she’d pick Sabrina over Brooke, so if she can do anything to help Sabrina, I think she’d do it.
I liked the invisible walls and floors; it just took me a bit to figure out panel 5. I wanted to make sure I was interpreting it right, and figured it might be helpful to others as well. I did notice the towel rank in panel 3, but thought that was pretty self-explanatory (it reminded me of things hanging on invisible walls in the Sims). I agree with Roller Derby Fan about the lack of horizontal lines being a good thing in this episode; it really fits with what is happening.
I second what bd said; I thought the shower was small too. I chalked it up to being a cramped space, but I think there might be room for it to be a little bigger. I’m not sure how close it is to the sink in the other corner. If it’s a tight fit, maybe it could be a square with the corner cut out for the door.
@ Jamie
Good catch with the helmet.
Roller Derby Fan, I would say its definitely more of the former than the latter, but it wouldn’t be above Brooke to sneak attack Sabrina. Good eye for detail with picking up Brooke’s frustration at losing to Sabrina. Rival Angels is a top 5 cable show, that normally broadcasts weekly out of Chicago, but they do travel around for their Pay Per Views.
The old school roller derby was the bomb and though the attempted revitilization (Roller Jam?) I don’t think it quite captured the appeal of the older days. Rival Angels does have a better timeslot than either. 😀 Thanks for the compliment on the art, I’m glad you liked the hanging towel rack in panel 3! And I completely agree with how nice the reader community is here. Always some good points and observations, as well as helpful suggestions.
A Mouse, speaking of helpful suggestions, I took you and bd’s note about the shower and made it a bit bigger. Its a bit more believable now I think. Also good catch with what was wonky with the website before. Basically, I couldn’t access my site to load the new page, but I could still post. The image page ended up having to be hosted somewhere else temporarily and that’s why there was a tad difference in how it looked.
Sabrina and Brooke are showing their inexperience and a little bit of their age too. They’re going to be roommates for quite a while so they’re just going to have to learn to get along. Right on with Brooke having step-siblings and younger to boot. I hope to address that in a future chapter, some background on Brooke and all of the main characters of Rival Angels. Maybe see why Brooke is used to being the center of attention and why she demands it.
I’m glad you liked the invisible walls and floors, again I didn’t know how well they’d work but I think I may try them again. It was challenging to portray some space in tight quarters like a bathroom so I had a bit of fun with it.
And Sun… she IS a ninja!! 😉
This is so awesome, great job lol.By the way my yahoo is working 🙂
Thanks Prince Charming, I always apprciate the support.
I think I’d have to see the before and after of the shower side by side to really see the difference, but Brooke does look like she’s further in the corner, so … yeah, it still looks small, but it looks like she could fit in it. I don’t think you can make it much bigger without destroying the delicate balance for space in the bathroom. The invisible walls/floor were a good way to deal with such a cramped space.
There have been comparisons between them and the Hell’s Belles. The Hell’s Belles have had time to work through this kind of thing, whereas the Upstarts haven’t. I doubt they were as cohesive when they first started out. This bodes well for the Upstarts; if they can get past there initial personality clashes, they should be able to work well together.
Wow, just wow. I’m not sure how I figured out Brooke’s family life. I don’t have any strong readings on the rest of the characters, yet. It may take some time to get to all their backgrounds; there’s only so much you can fit in one page. It’ll be nice when it comes, but don’t rush it.
So, Brooke is about to be ninja’d? 😉 Yeah, I know, you can’t say.
